1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ OEM Soft top Hardware and Installation
One of the most common questions I get is, what hardware do I need to install my soft top?
This article will cover two of the main pieces of hardware you will need to install the OEM Jeep Wrangler TJ Soft top! To start you off, check out this video:
First thing we need to do is determine if you have an OEM soft top.
Below is a diagram of an OEM soft top.
The features that set apart the oem top are the front latches that clamp to the windshield frame.
The plastic door surrounds:
And lastly the shape of the soft top frame:
Now that you have identified that you have an OEM soft top, you will need to make sure you have all the parts to attach it!
That’s where we can help!
The door surrounds (The plastic frames that fit around the full steel doors or the half doors with “canvas” uppers) are held on with 4 knobs.
These knobs are shown below.
They are $24.00 Each plus shipping. ( Mopar® Part #: 55176198 )
You are going to need four of these knobs to secure your door surround. So that will set you back $24 x 4 plus shipping (Around $10) plus tax. (Total out the door price would be $114.48 with sales tax!)

So now you have your door surrounds installed but you need to install the soft top canopy.
The soft top canopy is held to the roll bar with four torx T30 bolts.
These bolts are installed into the plastic ends of the soft top frame as shown below:
These bolts are also often missing from the jeep top. These bolts are Mopar® Part #: 6036311AA and they are $5.00 each! (You will need 4!) plus tax, plus shipping and handling! So most places are charging you $32.40 for these for little bolts!
